Consulate generals discuss 'Belt and Road' in Suzhou

An exchange meeting on the construction of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" (hereinafter referred to as the "Belt and Road") held by the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province was wrapped up in Suzhou on March 19.

During the meeting, consulate generals in Shanghai and officials from 13 foreign countries carried out dialogues and exchanges with 37 Jiangsu entrepreneurs and over 60 responsible persons of foreign affairs offices from various places in Jiangsu to seek the common interests for cooperation by centering on the "Belt and Road" construction and the Asia’s development prospect.

Enterprises in Jiangsu have positively developed their business towards the western direction while expanding their business towards the eastern direction, and opened up their new development space in regions including the ASEAN and the West Asia, according to Huang Xiqiang, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Department of Jiangsu Province.

Kenssy D. Ekaningsih, Indonesian Consulate General in Shanghai, said that Indonesia has a $60 billion investment plan which is an investment opportunity for Chinese enterprises. Farhat Ayesha, Acting Pakistani Consulate General in Shanghai, said that Pakistan, which has agricultural resources including cotton and rice as well as infrastructure construction projects including energy pipeline paving, not only welcomes enterprises in Jiangsu to invest in Pakistan, but also hopes copy the successful experiences of the Suzhou Industrial Park.

Irina Beleva, Bulgarian Consulate General in Shanghai held that Bulgaria, located at an important point of the "Belt and Road", has huge opportunities in agriculture and infrastructure investment. Horváth Levente, Hungarian Consulate General in Shanghai, said in fluent Chinese language that he encourages enterprises in Jiangsu to go to Hungary and expects to expand the cooperation with China.
