Medical experts from China and the US jointly performed charity surgeries for orphaned and disabled children in Nanjing, Apr 18-19

A group of 29 US experts led by Surgeon David Roye were invited by the Children of China Pediatrics Foundation (CCPF) to perform orthopedic and urology charity surgeries together with several surgeons from the Jiangsu Province Hospital, for 26 orphaned and disabled children in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.

The children to undergo surgery were selected from nearly one thousand candidates. When the US team arrived in Nanjing on April 17, they started further screening of the children and cooperated with Chinese experts in making suitable therapeutic schedules for them.

"We are here to help these children, and to learn from each other," said Gena Palumbo, president at the foundation.

CCPF was established in the US in 1997. It has been operating since as a non-profit organization providing free medical help for orphaned and disabled children in China. Their charity surgeries have so far benefited more than 500 children.

Meanwhile, the Jiangsu Province Hospital also set up a medical team including several surgeons and nearly 200 volunteers to take part in the joint charity work.
