(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2015-06-05 17:44

Scholars and officials from the mainland and Taiwan discussed industrial cooperation issues at the 5th Cross-Straits Industrial Cooperation Forum held in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, on June 3.

Wang Xiaotao, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, said the industrial transformation and upgrading in mainland has opened up new opportunities for cross-Straits cooperation.

The two sides should deepen cooperation in new industries to cultivate competitive advantage in the global market as well as encourage youth entrepreneurship to foster mutual development, Wang said.

Shen Jong-chin, deputy chief of Taiwan's economic authorities, said the mainland is currently working on the 13th Five-Year Plan and that both sides should have more communication and coordination on cross-Straits industrial policy and capacity planning so as to bring the resources of productive forces into full play.
