Representatives from China and Italy opened the door to the Nanjing yunjin pavilion for the first time at 10:30 am on July 7 in Italy’s fashion capital of Milan. The opening marked the commencement of the eagerly awaited Nanjing week at Expo Milano 2015.

Andrea Maurizi, president of the China-Italy Design Association (ADCI) and famous Chinese building space designer Shen Lei, led the representatives to door-opening ceremony.

A dragon robe - made from yunjin brocade material and modeled on a Chinese imperial robe – will be a major exhibit at the pavilion. The Nanjing yunjin pavilion is located in Piazza Duca d’Aosta, opposite Milan Central Rail Station.

The pavilion was designed by Shen Lei and Zhao Qing, a famous graphic designer in China.

The exhibition pavilion, made of glass, will feature twice-daily handicraft performances by yunjin weaving master Guo Jun, who will perform in the morning and afternoon.

Guo said that yunjin is a silk weaving masterpiece and that the yunjin international fashion show (to be held at the expo) will give the world a chance to learn more about the world’s most expensive fabric.

Six 15-square-meter Nanjing cultural boxes are on display across from the yunjin pavilion. The boxes have been transformed from transportation containers to feature Nanjing elements such as velvet flowers, festival lanterns and folding fans. Five intangible cultural heritage inheritors have been invited to attend to the boxes to interact with tourists.

Nanjing city, capital of China’s Jiangsu province, will hold its promotion week at Expo Milano 2015 from July 7 to 13.
