Yangzhou locals will be able to enjoy a feast of different cuisines from around the world without travelling afar from their homes.

A display of Chinese and foreign cuisines, one of the activities for the upcoming Silk Road Food Festival, will take place in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, from Sept 12 to 14, according to local authorities.

Both Chinese and foreign chefs will showcase their cooking skills during the event, while exchanging culinary ideas with one another. Various delicacies originated from ancient Rome, Persia, the Southeast Asia, and the Silk Road countries will be up for grabs for visitors to taste. Some cooking classes will also take place during the festival. Skills of making Yangzhoubaozi (a steamed stuffed bun), one of the local specialties, for instance, will be taught to visitors from home and abroad in a bid to introduce the Yangzhou cuisine to the world.

Other activities organized within the context of the food festival include an opening ceremony to award Yangzhou with the title of the Capital of International Cuisines, an inauguration ceremony for a culinary training base, a seminar on the Belt and Road initiatives, and an online activity to vote for the most favorite dishes.
