Jinchuan county in Sichuan province put on a major pear promotion in Beijing, on Sept 29, after selecting a few chosen shops just as its pears are being picked this golden autumn season, with help from Beijing's Farmers'Daily and Shenzhou Magazine and the Agriculture Ministry's farm produce development center.

The county is widely known for its pears and their ability to withstand the cold and their medicinal effect especially in reducing coughing and phlegm and it has planted thousands of pear trees over the years, resulting in the world’s biggest national, high-altitude pear plantation, according to the organizers.
And, the pears have helped the county's tourism business, especially in March, when they are in full bloom. The spring blossoms and the red leaves in autumn earned Jinchuan the designation of "beautiful pastoral scenic site" from the Ministry of Agriculture in 2014.
The Beijing promotion is part of a larger effort to introduce fresh, high quality farm produce to mid-size to large cities, and to bring farmers greater income.
