China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) has set up a "Belt and Road" Area for exhibitors from countries along the routes. It is the first time that CHTF has designated such an area under its roof.

Twenty-nine delegations from 21 countries, including Russia, South Korea and Australia, are displaying their latest innovations at the annual event, widely considered as China's largest and most influential high-tech event.

Many visitors walk along the stands in the "Belt and Road" Area, intermittently stopping to take a look at or ask about interesting products or services from overseas. But only few of them seem to have the intention of clinching a deal with foreign enterprises that hope to take advantage of the opportunity the Fair offers to them to find Chinese clients and expand their businesses to the Chinese market.

"There are a lot of visitors around, but we haven't got a single client so far," said M.Kabir Farooqui, account manager of Pakistan-based Maison Consulting & Solutions, which specializes in improving automation for enterprises.

Having a large customer base around the world, including the US, Farooqui hopes to tap into China through the CHTF platform.

He says that CHTF still provides a pretty good platform for foreign companies to increase their exposure overseas and reach out to new clients. He believes in the long-term effect the fair could have on his company.

Moon Byung Cheol, chief executive officer of Es Entertainment, a South Korean firm making mobile games, said he came to the fair to seek Chinese distributors for his company's new game "Oracle".

Although he has not got what he looks for yet, he believes that the Chinese market is not something he can miss out on. "Chinese market is very huge. We would like to have a slice of the cake," he says.

With the launch of CHTF's new "Belt and Road" Area, exhibitors like "Maison" and "Es Entertainment" are set to find new customer base and seize rewarding business opportunities.
