The 5th World Snow Day took place on the 17th of January 2016.

World Snow Day, which is the second phase of the 'Bring Children to the Snow' campaign, seeks to motivate children from 4-14 to celebrate snow around the world and will included more than 640 events in 33 countries, who have registered to organise activities. In China, 20 resorts across the country – increased from five last year - will offer free and discounted passes for children, according to General Administration of Sports and China Ski Association.

Several sports stars were present at the events in Shijinglong Ski Resort, including Han Xiaopeng, China’s first champion in the Olympic Winter Games, Li Nina, the winner of the World Championships in aerials and others. Accompanied by the sports stars, children performed many skiing skills.

The Mini Winter Olympic Games, co-hosted by FM 103.9 and the Propaganda Department of the Yanqing Distrcit Party Committee, attracted more than 500 families signed up. Because of space limitation, there were 20 families came to the Shijinglong Ski Resort. The final champion was chosen after a relay race, steeplechase, quiz game, snow bowling and treasure hunt in the snow.

Additionally, as one of three major divisions of the 2022 Winter Olympics, Yanqing brought children here a wonderful winter, more than 200 pupils for ski training.

Since last winter, Yanqing launched a series of snow activities among 31 secondary and primary schools, kindergartens and 31 comunities. Seven schools, including Yanqing No.4 Kindergarten, No.2 Primary School and No.2 Secondary School, have been appointed as pilot schools for snow sports education. Over a year, more than 3000 students from 13 primary schools received skiing training.

Pinggu Yuyang Ski Resort, another registered resort in Beijing, was opened its door to thousands of school children with a 40 percent discount on Jan 17. In order to respond to the call of Bring 300 Million People to the Snow, the resort has organized snow sports courses for more than 2700 teenagers from 29 primary schools in Pinggu District. On average, every student has 15 class hours of skiing skills, after which he or she will become a high level skier.
