China Daily website is inviting you to share Chengdu Story with us! and here are some points that we hope will help contributors:
Sensir came to Chengdu from his hometown in India in 2011. He is now working at a software outsourcing company in the Tianfu Software Park as a software engineer.
Sensir chose Chengdu because of its rich human resources and great development prospects under the national strategy of developing the western region. In addition, traffic conditions in Chengdu are convenient for him. “I go on several business trips every month; it’s great that there are direct flights linking nearly all my destinations to Chengdu,” said Sensir.
Although not proficient in the Chinese language, Sensir knows some simple words and can handle basic daily communication. “I can order dishes in restaurants. Many people can also speak English here and they are always willing to offer help, so I have no problems in communication.”
Chengdu people are very friendly and nice. Sensir said this is the most important reason that he loves this city. “Chengdu people are warm and friendly and it's a very comfortable and happy thing to be with them. During the five years in the city, I’ve made a lot of friends. They give me advice when I am in trouble, and we share our happiness with each other.”
Sensir likes to meet some friends at small teahouses or bars in his spare time and go to cinemas or eat out with his family on weekends. He summarizes his Chengdu life as “leisurely and attractive”.
Sensir’s wife Kapalai and their son Jarawa came to Chengdu with him. After five years of work and daily life, they have blended perfectly into this foreign city. Jarawa studies at an international school near their home. He speaks fluent Mandarin. “I have many good friends from different countries at school; I like to play basketball with them after school,” said Jarawa.
Sensir and Kapalai do not worry about their son’s school life at all. “Teachers are highly responsible and children are taken good care of at school; Jarawa is happy every day and enjoys his school life.”
Kapalai is now a full-time housewife. In addition to doing chores, she often visits her neighbors. They teach her to cook Sichuan dishes such as Kung Pao chicken and she teaches them Indian curry. She also likes to go shopping with her friends. “Chunxi Road and Global Center Shopping Mall are my favorite.”
Their apartment is rented from an agency specializing in services for foreigners. If they meet any problem regarding he apartment, they just need to call the agency.
Seeing a doctor is also convenient. A number of foreign doctors have opened clinics in Chengdu, and many local hospitals provide English-language services to foreign patients. Jarawa ran a high temperature last year but received good treatment at the international department of the West China Hospital Affiliated to Sichuan University, Sensir explained.
“Chengdu is a good place for the whole family; I am planning to invite my parents to live in Chengdu for a while,” said Sensir.
