Three great regions

Central Shaanxi is focused on growing as a vital and innovative industrial manufacturing region. The construction of the National Guanzhong High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and the national Spark (Program) Industrial Zone approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology has brought new opportunities for development.

The northern Shaanxi region is concentrated on becoming an important chemical engineering and energy source area. As the region’s industry chain has been extended and new industry cultivated its economy has rapidly developed.

Southern Shaanxi is developing as a green industrial region exploring hydroelectric power resources.

Four great bases

The Northern Shaanxi chemical industry and energy resources base relies on abundant local resources like coal, oil and natural gas in building northern Shaanxi into a national major kerosene producer, a source of thermal power for the “West to East Electricity Transmission” project and a leading player in the coal chemical industry.

The Guanzhong high-tech industries and modern equipment manufacturing base is home to a large number of traditional industrial enterprises, universities and research institutes. Its technological and industrial advantages have made it the economic core of Shaanxi’s central region. Shaanxi will continue to support the optimization and upgrading of the area’s industrial structure in which high-tech industries will lead, basic and manufacturing industries will function as supports and service industries will be comprehensively developed.

The Green Industrial Base centers in the Qinba Mountains area in Southern Shaanxi. It was renowned for the saying, “no idle grass in the Qin territory”, referring to its rich plant species; it has now been approved as a green industries base. Shaanxi plans to speed up the establishment of pharmaceutical botany for cultivation of Chinese herbs and development of modern Chinese medicine through leading enterprises. Based on the rich medicinal herb resources and ideal natural conditions of the Qinba Mountains, the development of green industry in Southern Shaanxi is expected to create a fresh situation in which the pharmaceutical industry and its associated businesses are the focus.

The Weibei Green Fruit Industry Base lies in the Weibei plain. Experts have confirmed that the Weibei plain is the world’s largest eugenic apple production region and that it is the only one that meets the seven meteorological indicators for exceptional apple production. Apples have consequently become the leading product and advantage of Shaanxi agriculture. Authorities are determined to protect Shaanxi in this regard by constructing the Weibei Green Fruit Base to a high standard. The goal is to make Shaanxi apples a well-known brand globally and Weibei the country’s largest and best green fruit base.
