Steamed buns, or guantangbao, sell well at the Muslim Quarter in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. The city was the first in China to be introduced to Islam, during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), and its culture runs through the popular quarter’s veins. It is considered a must-see for visitors to the city, who will quickly find themselves amidst a whirlwind of bustle and bartering, steam, smells and delicious food.
