Suzhou farce triggers waves of laughter

A farce opened at Suzhou Comedy Theater, attracting more than 100 children accompanied by their parents on August 15.

Staged by experienced performers from the Suzhou Farce Troupe, the traditional farce A Bride for a Ride was a hit with Suzhou residents. Stylish elements were added into the script, music and costumes, to the delight of the new generations.

Zhang Keqin, a famous farce performance artist and winner of China's Plum Performance Award, the highest in its field, is confident about farce, saying "I hope that more people will watch farce, especially the children. The traditional art form will go further in the future."

According to the troupe, besides A Bride for a Ride which will be presented at 2:00 pm from August 15 to 18, another children's farce called One Two Three, Lockstep will also be on show at 7:00 pm from August 12 to 14 and 19 to 20.
