Considerable development has occurred over the past year in the construction of villages in Anjia town, a town in Wuchang of Harbin, Heilongjiang province.
Anjia town has 10 villages with a population of 330,000 people. There are 8,900 hectares (89 square kilometers) of cultivated land in the town, which has ideal conditions for growing rice.
The town launched a plan to build and maintain beautiful villages, as soon as Wuchang city issued guidance on the issue. Anjia has made further improvements to the quality of life for its residents, including concentrating on the welfare of farmers.
Village-based groups have been established in the town to educate local residents on the ways of maintaining their localities, ensuring they remain pleasant places to live.
Anjia town has also compiled an overall plan for improvement works. The plan involves establishing garbage dumps and firewood storage areas in every village. Meanwhile, all villages will have workers dedicated to keeping them clean, according to the plan.
In the first half of his year, Anjia has invested more than 3 million yuan ($4,520,000) to build two demonstration villages. A total of 16 dilapidated buildings were restored to help local residents in poverty.
The town government called for more investment to accelerate the pace of village construction and improvements. Over the past year, Anjia has attracted investment capital of nearly 1 million yuan.
The government also said it will make considerable effort to build the villages into tourist attractions, as well as ensuring they are good places to live. The measures the government is taking have been included in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) for this village.
