RIO DE JANEIRO - China's Dong Chao successfully defended his Paralympic 10m air rifle standing SH1 title here on Thursday by holding off Abdullah Sultan Alaryani of the United Arab Emirates.
Dong secured the gold medal with 205.8 points, beating Alaryani by just 3.2 points. South Korea's Kim Suwan took bronze with 181.7 points.
"This medal was not easy and I think I was very lucky. It was very close," Dong said.
"It's my first time competing in South America. I tried my best to adjust to the time difference. I had heard about football and the friendly people here in Brazil, so I'm very happy to be here. I will be supporting the Chinese team, but I would love to see Christ the Redeemer and the beaches."
