An undergraduate from Jiangsu University has become this year's only person from the Chinese mainland to receive a job offer from the world-leading investment bank Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

Chi Bangqiang, who is currently in his senior year studying network engineering, received an offer after shining during a three-month internship at Goldman Sachs's Hong Kong regional headquarters.

Competition for a job is always tough for a fresh graduate in China, especially at a dream employer like Goldman Sachs. Chi won his place on the internship after standing out from more than 10,000 applicants.

A lifetime of dedication has got Chi to this point. He has been obsessed with computers since he was in primary school, he says, and used to regularly hide programming manuals inside his school textbooks to continue studying IT in secret during lessons.

He has developed more than 20 useful apps during his past three years at university, such as I Come, a service that records the time and place that two people meet each other, which Chi says was inspired by watching people passing by in his daily life.

Chi also leads a 33-strong startup group which is constituted by different majors at the university to provide services on apps, information security and visual design.
