Xi’an has set a series of targets for its tourism sector in 2017.
According to the Xi’an tourism bureau, the city received 144 million visitors between January and November in 2016, up 10.41 percent compared with the same period in 2015. The tourism sector reaped a revenue of 114.09 billion yuan ($16.49 billion) with a 13.08 percent year-on-year growth.
As stated by bureau officials, Xi’an has set a target to receive 160 million visitors and achieving a turnover of 132 billion yuan this year. The city will build its brand image for a collection of historical and cultural sites, and seeks to upgrade its rural tourism.
Xi’an will also improve public services for tourists. It will set up digital platforms for tourism, develop internet access at rural tourist sites and improve digital maps and navigation systems.
Also on the agenda is the renovation of toilets in the city, so that visitors will have a better tourist experience in Xi’an. The city also plans to work on camping facilities to attract more self-driving visitors.
