In conjunction with World Wetlands Day on Feb 2, Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, announced its latest achievements in wetland protection.

Since the construction of the A’ha Lake Wetland Park , Guiyang’s first national level wetland park, three more are currently being built in the area, namely Hongfeng Lake Wetland Park, Baihua Lake Wetland Park, and Yanying Lake Wetland Park.

A’ha is home to 473 hectares of wetlands, rivers, swamps, marshes, and bogs.

The city’s riverine, marsh, and constructed wetlands now cover 16,018 hectares, 2.03 percent of Guiyang’s total area.

Guiyang authorities said that they would continue to push forward with their efforts to construct wetland parks in a bid to maintain good water quality in rivers, control pests, and improve biodiversity. Moreover, publicity activities are also scheduled to be held in the city in the future, to raise awareness of wetlands protection.
