Traditional Yaozhou kiln promoted in modern ages
A seminar and exhibition to celebrate the 1,400th anniversary of Yaozhou Kiln will be held from Oct 21 to 29, the government of Tongchuan, Shaanxi province, announced on Oct 16.
Yaozhou porcelain has more than 1,000 years of history. Its exquisite porcelain making technology and ceramic products have exerted far-reaching influence at home and abroad, and has been selected as one of China’s first national intangible cultural heritages.
The series events, focusing on promoting the history and culture of Yao porcelain and supporting the transformation and upgrading of the local traditional industry, will be held at Yaozhou Kiln Culture Base.
According to Zheng Shengming, deputy director of the event organizing committee, a total of 11 activities showing the culture, innovation and future of Yao porcelain will be showcased during the event.
To promote Yao porcelain, an innovative Yao porcelain exhibition displaying ceramic works made by 60 artists from 15 countries, and an art gallery for children will be on show.
An experience zone is also set to offer visitors opportunities to make their own porcelain works.
Experts, scholars in porcelain fields and staffs in related industries are invited to the Porcelain Culture Development Forum, during which issues such as the protection and promotion of traditional ceramic art will be discussed.
The activities are sponsored by the Tongchuan government, the Shaanxi Artists Association, the administrative committee of Yaozhou Kiln Culture Base and companies such as Tongchuan Yao Porcelain Industrial Park.
