Musical lovers in Nanjing, mark your calendar, as Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris is due to start its China tour in June.

The tour is set to start in Nanjing on June 12, followed by Shanghai, Shenyang, Beijing and Zhengzhou, according to the Beijing Poly Theatre Management Co, who introduced the program at a press conference on Wednesday. The musical will be staged in Poly franchise theaters in these four cities.

Inspired by the movie of the same name, the musical tells a romantic story set after WWⅡ.Jerry, a former American soldier, goes to Paris to start a new life and wants to become a painter. He meets and falls in love with Lise, who happens to be a young and beautiful ballet dancer.

The classical musical stars Ryan Steel and Leanne Cope, is directed by Christopher Wheeldon, and brings with it a strong production team and veteran crew members, including Bob Crowley in costume design and Natasha Katz in lighting.

The musical became a hit after its debut on Broadway in 2015 and won four Tony Awards. It then went on to sweep audiences away when it played in the West End in 2017, receiving a 5-star rating from 28 media groups.
