The "Assembly of a strategic alliance for technological innovations of HN-CVT" was held at Beijing VIT Automobile Science & Technology Co. in Beijing's Economic-Technological Development Area a few days ago.

Over 30 well-known domestic assembly plants, parts factories and research institutes attended the meeting. They intended to build a collective led by assembly plants and participated in by parts factories, to help HN-CVT and a batch of new transmission technologies with proprietary intellectual property rights realize industrialization as soon as possible. The engine and transmission are the two major core parts of a car.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers' statistics on China's imports and exports of auto parts in 2012, imported transmission assemblies totaled $6.4 billion, accounting for around 20% of all imported auto parts. Current automatic transmission technologies mainly include the four major categories of automatic transmission (AT), automated manual transmission (AMT), dual clutch transmission (DCT) and continuously variable transmission (CVT).

CVT technology, characterized by economic fuel consumption, stable power output but a relatively high cost, is mainly used for Mitsubishi, Subaru and other high-end vehicles. Beijing VIT Automobile is a high-tech enterprise in the area, which is in possession of the world's leading technologies in the field of CVT for automobiles, and is striving to become a new leader in this field. Wang Guobin, Chairman of the Board of the company created the CVT technology taking an "oscillating tooth" as transmission gear by analyzing and restructuring mathematical models.

The ‘HN-CVT' is applying for patents in China, US, Japan and another 10 countries. VIT has introduced a prototype Dongfeng Warrior vehicle which carries HN-CVT by cooperating with Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and launched the prototype vehicle of Aumark by cooperating with Foton.

The establishment of a CVT strategic alliance will help VIT and a number of private enterprises create automatic transmission products with China's full intellectual property rights in the field of automotive transmission, and find new areas for China's automotive transmissions to increase their international competitiveness.
