In May 2012, the development area was listed into the first batch of "National E-Commerce Demonstration Bases" by the Ministry of Commerce.

In March 2014, it was designated as the "Beijing E-Commerce Center" by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce, Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, and Beijing Administration for Industry and Commerce.

The development area has formed a relatively complete e-commerce industrial cluster. Representative enterprises include Jingdong Mall, Jumei, Cainiao Network Technology, Jiuxian and Huimai Online.
