There was a gathering in Beijing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Beijing Benz Automotive Co, on August 24, and to take a look back at its development and achievements over the past decade and open a new chapter in transforming China into a powerful auto producer.
The company reported sales of more than 500,000 automobiles by the end of 2014 and an increase in sales for the first seven months of this year that is six times the figure for the same period 10 years ago, with total industrial output value growing 8-fold for the period. The company's factory area now covers 5 square kilometers, or half again as big as when it began with the number of employees reaching nearly 12,000, or almost triple the original figure.
The company's chairman, Xu Heyi, comments, "Beijing Benz has maintained global standards under the same brand and quality over the past decade," then added that they brought in key technology, developed a quality assessment system, got better management concepts and established a luxury auto production system that integrates R&D, engine manufacturing and finished automobile production.
Xu went on to say, "The company has contributed a lot to improving the auto industry, bringing in top-notch personnel, and to Beijing's economic development," then noted that its sales have risen steadily over the years as has its strength.
The chairman and CEO of Daimler AG Greater China, Hubertus Troska, explained, "Beijing Benz has become a major global production center for Daimler," then noted that it produced nearly 150,000 automobiles in 2014, or about eight times the 2006 figure, and its monthly output went above the 20,000-mark for the first time this past June, or equal to the total output of 2007, and the company has become the biggest Mercedes-Benz producer worldwide and a strong driving force behind the brand in China.
The leaders of Beijing’s Economic-Technological Development Area or E-town, took part in the gathering and spoke highly of the company's achievements over the past decade and said that it has used cutting-edge technology and expanded the product range and industrial chain since the very beginning and has increased in overall strength to become a leader in Beijing's high-level manufacturing.
E-town is trying its best to develop itself into a center of coordinated development for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area and an airport free trade zone, which will offer more opportunities for Beijing Benz. The leaders say they hope that the company will make full use of China’s national strategy and the Beijing Automobile Group and Daimler in their innovation efforts to become a top auto company worldwide.
