On the night of Nov 20, a cold wave hit Beijing and the first snow of the year arrived. Yellow alerts warned of icy roads and blue ones signaled the frigid conditions; both reminders that the frozen times of winter had come.
On Nov 21, 900 workers from Beijing Xinjie environmental sanitation company got to work on the icy streets, and by 5.00 pm conditions were cleared.
On Ronghua and Boxing streets, workers inspected communities, industrial parks, main roads, hospitals and schools to ensure emergency measures were ready. At the same time, brooms, gloves and other snow-cleaning tools were issued by the communities.
Temperatures in Beijing recently fell to below zero degrees Celsius. Wangyuanjie subway station prepared anti-skid pads and used a snow melt agent to ensure normal access. The inspection of shielded gates was also an important part of preparing for the bad weather.
