E-town set to promote voluntary services
Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (E-town) marked Learn From Lei Feng Day with 200 voluntary activities, according to the launch held on Mar 3.
The activities, including a power extension project and emergency training for enterprises, were selected by E-town from 9,161 possible activities to promote voluntary services in the area.
The top 10 volunteers and first voluntary service stations received awards from Zhao Yajuan and Han Hongying, senior E-town officials, at the launch.
Learn From Lei Feng Day is celebrated every year in China on Mar 5 to honor Lei Feng, a model Chinese citizen known for his selflessness, modesty and devotion to the national good.
To encourage residents' participation in the voluntary activities, E-town and Daxing district jointly released a voluntary service map and employed the latest information technologies to facilitate the activities. A WeChat platform was established to give information on the voluntary activities underway in the two areas.
E-town and Daxing district have made remarkable progress in promoting voluntary services in recent years.
The two areas now boast some 274,000 registered volunteers on the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation platform, a nonprofit social organization, established in 1993, which brings together volunteer service organizations in the capital. There are now 3,052 volunteer service organizations set up in the two areas.
