The groundbreaking ceremony for an intelligent logistics park being built by retail giant JD took place in Hohhot's Horinger New Area, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Sept 27.

JD has invested 1.3 billion yuan ($189 million) in the new facility, following an agreement with the government of Horinger New Area.

The park, which has a planned area of 412 mu (27.47 hectares), will feature a JD e-commerce business center, a regional purchasing center, and demonstration bases for its intelligent logistics, unmanned stores, and driverless delivery vehicles.

JD will roll out its latest technologies in the park to offer intelligent solutions in areas such as sorting and delivery.

The new center allows Hohhot's logistics industry to take a giant leap forward, said Wang Ying, deputy director of Inner Mongolia's Postal Service Administration, speaking at the ceremony.

Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was approved as a cross-border e-commerce pilot zone by the State Council in August.

Wang noted that the park is expected to lower logistics costs and create new jobs in the city.

He stressed that it will help integrate the city's logistics network with e-commerce businesses and boost e-commerce trading in the area.

The park is the first program operated by both JD and Horinger New Area, after the two sides recently agreed to deepen their ties.

According to JD, it will continue to work with Horinger New Area in industries such as big data and cloud computing, and plans to establish the Inner Mongolia branch of JD in the near future.
