JD Digits launches new smart city research institute

China's digital technology company JD Digits unveiled a new smart city research institute in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province, the company said Thursday.
The new research institute will develop the advanced technology for smart supply chains and boundaryless retail, as well as exploring the industry model at the core of smart cities.
The institute has a data service lab, AI lab, industrial application research institute, business model lab, and technology transformation department, it said.
JD Digits aims to provide solutions to the problems of city transport, urban planning, environment, energy consumption, and public security.
In addition to the Chengdu institute, JD Digits has two other smart city research institutes in Beijing and Nanjing, as well as a smart city lab in Guangxi.
