Post-quake reconstruction in Sichuan to finish by Sept.: vice governor

All reconstruction projects in southwest China' s Sichuan province, which was hard hit by a devastating earthquake in 2008, will be fully completed by September this year, Vice Governor Wei Hong said on Monday.

French-style street in Bailu to open May 12

A European-style tourism street will open May 12 in Bailu town in the county-level city of Pengzhou in Sichuan province. French-style architecture will be part of the new, heavily landscaped area.

Quake-evacuated pandas to return home to Wolong next year

More than 80 giant pandas roaming around in a mountain gorge base near Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, will return to the bamboo groves of Wolong next year after their quake-leveled homes are rebuilt.

Chengdu to build emergency shelters for 1.1 million people

Chengdu, the capital city of southwest China's Sichuan province, will soon begin construction of 35 well-equipped emergency shelters that can accommodate up to 1.1 million people at the same time, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs said on March 24.
