Chongqing's western logistic park said on June 29 that it recently received its largest number of imported cars to date.
The GEFCO International Logistic (China) Co is responsible for the transportation of the 600 cars via six Europe-Xinjiang-Chongqing trains.
This time, the trip took only 13.5 days compared to the 14 to 16 days needed previously thanks to more effective coordination between Chongqing and the railway stations.
Chen Xuzhong, general manager of the company in charge, said this is the first time the block trains have transported a large number of autos. It takes less time and fewer costs than traditional maritime transport.
Impressively, Chongqing has tripled last year's imported car number of 278 in the first half of this year.
"The goal this year is to import 1500 cars. But the trend signals the number can very possibly exceed 2000." Huang Xiang, manager of a logistic company in Chongqing said.
The vehicle import port is now constructing supporting facilities including an auto trade center, a car experience center and a maintenance base for imported cars.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
