HYDATA, an industry leader of big data visualization in China, announced that it has made a breakthrough in Chinese lip reading, reaching an accuracy rate of 71 percent, on Aug 1.
Feng Yicun, founder and CEO of HYDATA, said, "At present, our automated lip reading technology has taken the lead in the industry across the world."
Using the company's advantages in big data visualization analysis and artificial intelligence (AI), the lip reading system can open up a huge market in public security, military intelligence, personal identity verification and disabled education in the future.

Feng added, "In addition to better serving public security, the lip reading technology can be widely applied in mobile payment, remote military reconnaissance and assisting the hearing impaired."
In developing the technology, HYDATA used real life case studies supplied by the public security bureau. It is hoped that the technology can be used to assist police in solving crimes by providing more effective analysis of public security camera footage.

The startup also has an 80 percent accuracy rate for the English language, and is already moving toward industrialization with public security departments in some provinces.
Headquartered in Beijing, the company will also accelerate cooperation with local universities and science technology institutes, and build an incubation platform for startups to provide talent support for the big data industry in Chongqing.
