Updated: 2008-12-08 11:05 Some of the biggest names in Asian cinema will gather in Taichung City, Taiwan, on Saturday for the 45th Golden Horse Film Awards, the Chinese-speaking world's leading film awards, website Sina.com reports. Actress Karena Lam and Karen Mok from Hong Kong, Lin Chiling from Taiwan, and Zhou Xun and Vicki Zhao Wei from the mainland are among the stars who will attend the event. Famous pop star Coco Lee will also give performance. Hong Kong director Peter Ho-Sun Chan's "The Warlord," has received 12 award nominations for various awards, while the Taiwanese film "Cape No.7," a romantic comedy by Wei Te-Sheng, has garnered nine award nominations. The film, which has generated the most box-office revenue in Taiwan's film industry, is widely expected to be the night's big winner. Movie star Jet Li has been nominated as best actor for portraying a general who turns against his sworn brother in "the Warlord," a drama by Hong Kong director Peter Ho-Sun Chan. Li, who also won the best actor award at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards in April, has shifted his focus this year to charity work. He did not plan to attend the Golden Horse Film Awards, the article said. Media reports said actor Zhang Hanyu from "Assembly," a Chinese civil war movie, is neck-in-neck with Jet Li for the best actor award. Hong Kong actor Louis Koo and mainland actor Liao Fan in "Ocean Flame" are also vying for the prize. Star Chinese Channel will telecast the annual award show on the mainland, while website portals Sina.com and Sohu.com will present live broadcasts of the glitzy event starting today at 5:30 p.m. |
