Journey to the Silk Road - Austria

From Anming, in Aschach, Austria

My hometown is a small municipality called Aschach in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. The town is located in the Danube Valley and has a population of 2,190.

First mentioned in the year 777, Aschach has a historic center with beautiful houses and courtyards, including a castle. Tourists can enjoy architectural styles from the Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance.

As Austria is pretty small, you can easily travel to many other European countries. I can drive to Germany within one hour. To Czech Republic it just takes me 30 minutes. Italy, Switzerland and Hungary is not far either!

In general, Austrian people pay a lot of attention to the environment and try to live in harmony with nature. Especially in my area, many people grow their own vegetables or buy agricultural products from nearby farmers. Like this family close to my home, advertising their homemade honey.

Rivers and soil are clean, so many people fish their own lunch directly from the Danube.
