From Zhang Jie, Zhenjiang, East China's Jiangsu province.

I was brought up in Zhenjiang, East China's Jiangsu province.

Zhenjiang, referring to the "Garrison of the River" in Mandarin, is often associated with folk mythologies.

One of the most intriguing legends is "Tale of the White Snake," which depicts a fantastic love story about a thousand-year-old snake spirit fighting an evil monk.

Jinshan Temple is a well known Buddhist temple for 1,600 years. The temple becomes famous due to Emperor Kangxi's visits during the Qing Dynasty and the legend of "White Snake." White Snake's husband, Xu Xian, is said to be coerced to become a monk in Jinshan Temple. [Photo by Zhang Jie / provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
