(BEIJING, April 5) -- A total of nine calligraphic pieces won the award of excellence in a campaign calling for calligraphic and poster creations on the theme slogan of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Games organizers announced here today.

In the poster category, three authors were given the first prize, five second prize and 17 others third prize.

During a two-month period from September 16 to November 15, 2005, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) received a total of 2739 submissions, including 428 calligraphic works.

In addition to China's mainland, submissions came from the United States of America, Japan as well as the Hong Kong and Macao regions. Over 80 Chinese higher learning institutions took part in the activity.

At the end of last year, an evaluation panel of renowned Chinese experts made a careful evaluation and selection of the submitted works and the whole process was under the supervision of BOCOG Audit Department.

The purpose of the campaign was to promote worldwide the theme slogan of One World One Dream of the 29th Olympiad.

Pan Tingting, a Tsinghua University student, integrated the ancient Chinese armillary sphere with the Olympic Ring in her poster design, reflecting the same dream of the global people. Her creation was awarded the second prize.

Another second prize winner was Jin Lin of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, who wrote the slogan not only in Chinese, but also in English, French, German and Russian. "Through these languages more people in the world will understand our Olympic theme slogan," Jin said.
