Beijing school children taught to save water (BOCOG) Updated: 2006-05-12 09:13
"Which seasons see more precipitation in Beijing?" "Summer and winter."
Scene of the launch ceremony of the
water-saving campaign | This was a simple conversation
between Zhou Youhong -- a member of the Beijing Olympic Green Action Promotion
Group and a bunch of school kids during Zhou's lecture on environmental
protection Wednesday.
The interesting yet interactive activity carried the message that the
Environmental Activity Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the
Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), along with worldwide Olympic partner Coca
Cola and other work units, is trying to deliver to the future generations as
they jointly launched a water-saving campaign among the kids.
As a part of the initiative to promote "Green Olympics", the campaign will
involve students of over 1,000 primary schools in the city this year.
During the launch ceremony of the campaign, student representatives were
given water-saving leaflets. They will post water-saving tips at every corner of
the school to remind other people to cherish the precious water resources.
According to the organizers, education kits on environmental protection will
also be distributed to local schools. Students were encouraged to bring the
message to family members and show their feedback on school tabloid.
"We hope that through this campaign, the young people will increase the
awareness of environmental protection," said Xu Xiaoxuan, director of BOCOG
Environmental Activity Dept. "Such practice is of great meaning not only for the
kids, but also for every member of the society," he continued.
