The roster:

Brazil

Lyon defender Cris was selected over injured Roque Junior by Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

"Today, Cris is one of the respected players in Europe. He is sought after by various clubs. He deserved a spot," Parreira said.

Brazil, seeking its second straight World Cup title and sixth overall, is led by standout attacking players, including Ronaldinho, Robinho, Adriano, Ronaldo and Kaka. Just two players are with Brazilian clubs: backup goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni and midfielder Ricardinho.

Ukraine

Andriy Shevchenko, who injured a knee playing for AC Milan on May 7, was selected for Ukraine's roster for the nation's first World Cup appearance.

Shevchenko, tied for fourth in Italy's Series A with 19 goals this season, is expected to recover before Ukraine's opener against Spain on June 14.
