Maradona's absense at World Cup opening ceremony a mix up, not a snub (AP) Updated: 2006-06-12 09:47
Germany's summer started just in time for the tournament after a frigid May,
and the German Weather Service said Sunday that temperatures will climb as high
as 33 degrees C (91 degrees Fahrenheit) in the first half of this week.
Temperatures of 31 degrees C (88 degrees F) can be expected along the Rhine
and Moselle rivers in western Germany on Monday, but the hottest temperatures of
the week are forecast for Tuesday.
A break in the sunny snap is likely by Wednesday, when the forecasters
predict sometimes heavy thunderstorms.

NO FLAGS: Berlin's police chief has ordered his officers not to fly German
flags from their cars while on the beat.
"Even during the World Cup, police officers on duty are not traveling in
their capacity as German soccer fans," Dieter Glietsch wrote to his force,
police said.
While officials insist Glietsch is not trying to prevent his roughly 20,000
employees from celebrating, they say regulations stipulate that police vehicles
must be neutral.
Berlin was awash in black-red-and-yellow German flags when the host country
beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the tournament's opening game Friday, and several police
cars reportedly sported flags.

HANDS UP: An American was arrested on the fringes of Sunday's World Cup match
between the Netherlands and Serbia-Montenegro for trying to sell forged tickets,
police said.
The 46-year-old man, whose identity was not released, was carrying 17 fake
tickets.
Police in Leipzig said they also arrested two Poles who were offering stolen
tickets. Five Bulgarians were detained on suspicion of
pickpocketing.
