GLASGOW, June 14 - Japan midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura has agreed an option for a one-year extension to his contract at Celtic.

"It will be common knowledge that there have been offers for me to play elsewhere and these are always flattering," Nakamura was quoted as saying on the Scottish champions' website on Wednesday.

"But I am delighted to be playing at Celtic ... and I'm also pleased to agree a one-year contract extension."

The deal would keep the midfielder, who is part of the Japan squad the the World Cup, at Celtic until 2009.

Manager Gordon Strachan said: "Naka made a magnificent contribution to Celtic throughout the whole of last season and played a major role in securing the SPL and League Cup. He's made it clear Celtic is where he wants to be, something everyone at the club is delighted about."
