At club level, he has won every major honor with Juventus and Real Madrid, having started his career with Cannes and then staying with Bordeaux until Juve came knocking in 1996.

In Germany, he collected yellow cards against Switzerland and South Korea as stumbling France drew its opening two matches, despite a strong Zidane performance against Switzerland.

He was suspended for Friday's match against Togo, forcing France to switch to a 4-4-2 formation which resulted in a 2-0 win.

Just before he scored on Tuesday he picked up another yellow card, his third of the tournament.

Zidane retired from international soccer for the first time after France lost a quarterfinal match to Greece at the 2004 European Championship.

He returned in August 2005 in time for France's final four World Cup qualifiers, and marked his 100th cap in a friendly match against Mexico.
