It was the eighth walkoff win of the season for the Red Sox, who twice faced
four-run deficits before tying the contest with a big sixth inning.
Wily Mo Pena finished the day with three hits, including a fifth inning
homer, three RBI and three runs scored, while light hitting Doug Mirabelli also
drove in three runs.
In Chicago, Brian Anderson drove in a pair of runs and the White Sox took
advantage of a pair of Detroit errors to fashion a 4-3 comeback win that sent
the slumping Tigers to their fourth straight defeat.
As a result of their tailspin, the surprising Tigers have seen their 10-game
lead in the AL central trimmed to 6 ? by the World Series champions.
With six wins in their last nine, the White Sox also continue to set the pace
in the AL wild card race.
Tied 3-3 entering the seventh, Sandy Alomar sent a sacrifice fly to right
field scoring Jermaine Dye with the go-ahead run.
