China's Xue wins women's 5000m

BEIJING -- Chinese Xue Fei gave the host their first gold at the 11th IAAF World Junior Championships as she claimed the women's 5,000m title here on Tuesday.

National champion Xue clocked 15 minutes 31.61 seconds to triumph in the penultimate event of the day. Florence Jebet Kiplagat of Kenya was overtaken by Xue at the last moment and finished second in 15:32.34 before her compatriot Mary Wacera Ngugi in 15:36.82.

Another Chinese runner Bai Xue came fourth in 15:37.12.

Xue, just crowned in the 5,000m at the National Championships early this month, followed at heel Kiplagat who led to cross the 4,000m mark before the 17-year-old surpassed Kimplagat in the final meters.
