Tour of Venezuela: Cuban Gil Cordoves claims 40th victory (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-09-05 14:05
Cuban Gil Cordoves, from the Alcaldia de Cabimas club and a resident of
Venezuela, Sunday won the seventh phase of the cycling Tour of Venezuela to
reach his 40th victory in this competition, Local press said on Monday.
In his fourth victory of the seven phases of the competition, Cordoves made
111.6 kilometers in two hours, 32 minutes and six seconds.
Venezuelan Anthony Brea, from the Expreso Occidente team, was second, and his
compatriot Jesus Perez, from Triple Gordo, was third.
The eighth 146-kilometers stage will be completed on Monday between Los
Teques and San Juan de Los Morros.
The 43rd edition of the Tour of Venezuela began on August 28 and will
conclude on September 10.
Other participating teams are Selle Italia, Caico from Puerto Rico, Tecos
from Mexico, Extra Caloi Suzano from Brazil and Chilean, Colombian and Cuban
national teams.
