English Premiership clubs Tottenham, Newcastle and Blackburn shrugged off their mediocre domestic form to reach the UEFA Cup group stages overnight.

Tottenham saw off Slavia Prague 1-0, Newcastle defeated Tallinn 2-0 and Blackburn were 2-0 winners against Salzburg.

Glasgow Rangers, who had lost their last two Scottish Premier League games, bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Molde.

However, West Ham's problems continued as they crashed out 4-0 on aggregate to Palermo.

Former European champions Marseille were the night's biggest casualties, losing to Mlado Boleslav 4-3 on aggregate in their first round second leg tie.

Hearts drew 0-0 with Sparta Prague but went out after they had lost the first leg 2-0.

Little Derry also saw their UEFA Cup run come to an end when they lost 2-0 in Paris after holding the French giants to a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

Defending champions Sevilla made it through with a comfortable 6-1 aggregate win over Atromitos of Greece.
