Chinese road cyclist Li Fuyu Thursday hoped to take his first Asian Games' gold medal in Doha.

"For the Asian Games, I have no other goals but to win a gold medal," said Li after his daily training.

Li, a rider of China's Continental team Marco Polo, is the first Chinese to join an International Cycling Union (UCI) ProTour team and is given a chance to race at the top three cycling events in the world - Tour de France, Tour de Spain and Giro'd Italia.

"This is something out of my expectation. I am very happy to be selected as a part of the best team in the world. This is a dream come true for me," said Li.

Having won the 10th National Games in October last year, Li has had a successful 2006 campaign riding for his current Marco Polo cycling team.

He won the GP Westfalen in Germany and enjoyed an overall win at the Tour of Thailand, the first time a Chinese rider ever won the overall at an international pro race.

"Last year, I made some progress, which gave me the chance to be selected as a member of a UCI Protour team," added Li.

Back home, Li finished third in both the road race and time trial events at the Chinese National Championships in August and won the Hainan road race two weeks ago.

"Now, I think I had already got enough experience to compete with the top cyclists in the world," added Li.

The 28-year-old from Shandong will participate in the men's individual road race on December 3.

The Doha Asian Games cycling competition will run from December 3 to 14. The 21-strong Chinese team will compete in all 17 cycling events.
