VIGO, Spain, Nov 30 - Celta Vigo notched up their first win in the UEFA Cup group phase and boosted their chances of qualifying for the last 32 when they beat Turkish side Fenerbahce 1-0 at home on Thursday.

Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Canobbio secured the victory with a well struck free kick 13 minutes from time to put the Primera Liga side into second place in Group H behind Newcastle United.

Fenerbahce had the chance to take an early lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 13th minute, but Brazilian midfielder Alex has his spot kick saved by Celta keeper Esteban.

Alex hit the post midway through the second half, but seven minutes later Canobbio snatched the win with his free kick.

The win left Celta with four points from three games, a point ahead of Fenerbahce and Palermo and two clear of Eintracht who drew 0-0 at home to already qualified Newcastle.

Celta are away to Palermo and Fenerbahce are at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in their final group matches.
