China share spoils with Japan in Asian Games swimming

South Korea's Park touched home eight seconds ahead of his nearest challenger in the 1500m to add to his Asian Games 200m and 400m freestyle titles.

Breaking clear of the field at the 1,000m mark, Park powered down the final 100m for an Asian record of 14:55.03.

"I didn't expect to get that result," he said. "I was tired beforehand, but when I saw I'd got the record, I forgot about that."

Park also said he was saddened to learn of the death of South Korean rider Kim Hyung-chil, who died earlier on Thursday after a heavy fall at the equestrian event.

"I would like to dedicate this medal to him," he added.

On a brighter note, an ecstatic Tao Li celebrated Singapore's second gold of the 15th Asian Games with victory in the women's 50m butterfly.
