Dong plays full time in Man. U reserves game(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-02-23 13:58 LONDON -- Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo played full time in Manchester United's reserves game against Middlesbrough on Thursday. Dong partnered senior striker Alan Smith upfront in the 1-1 draw, where the red devil missed out on the chance to close the gap on league leaders Middlesbrough after the visitors grabbed a late equaliser. It was the Chinese striker who almost opened the scoring in the 10th minute. His powerful strike from the edge of the box was superbly tipped away by Boro stopper Ross Turnbull. Sean Evans had given United the lead just after half time following excellent build-up play from Smith. The visitors levelled 12 minutes from time, however, as substitute Ben Hutchison's 20-yard effort was deflected home via the left foot of Floribert Ngalula. The result was harsh on United, who were thwarted more than once by excellent goalkeeper Turnbull. United place second in the reserves league, with five points behind the leaders but a game in hand. |
