LONDON, June 11 - Britain hailed a new motor racing hero in Formula One winner Lewis Hamilton on Monday with newspaper front pages trumpeting his Canadian Grand Prix win as the first of many.

"King of the road and a new British hero," declared the Times.

"Lewis, Britain's new hero, roars to victory at 22," said the Daily Mail over a picture of the sport's first black driver spraying the champagne.

The Express said the McLaren driver was on the road to earning millions as a man standing "on the threshold of becoming a 21st century icon" in the same vein as U.S. golfer Tiger Woods.

Hamilton, already the only driver in Formula One history to stand on the podium in all his first six races, won in only his sixth grand prix start.

He leads the world championship, eight points clear of double world champion team mate Fernando Alonso.
