Hingis eases past Nakamura at Wimbledon(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-06-28 00:57 Former Wimbledon champion Martina Hingis breezed past Japan's Aiko Nakamura 6-1, 6-2, advancing to the third round of Wimbledon women's singles on Wednesday. Hingis, the ninth seed, set up a clash against American Laura Granville in the third round. The Swiss will always have fond memories of Wimbledon after winning the singles crown aged just 16 in 1997 and she could go deep into the tournament again if she continues in this vein of form. Hingis has found it hard to recapture her former glories at the Grand Slams since coming out of retirement last year, but this was a classic display from the former world number one. Nakamura, ranked 68th in the world, had already been dumped out of the Australian Open by Hingis earlier this year and she never threatened to test the Swiss in the match. |
