LYON, France, July 2 - France striker Sylvain Wiltord was taken from Lyon's training ground on Monday for police questioning in connection with a speeding offence.

Officers came to the training centre of his Olympique Lyon club shortly before the scheduled start of a training session. A few minutes later, the 33-year-old striker left in a police car.

Wiltord was taken to a police station for questions regarding a speeding offence, a police spokesman said.

The player then left the police station after being summoned to show again in a few months.

"I don't think it's very serious," Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told Reuters. "I'm told he has not replied to summoning by police regarding a speeding offence.

"This is not good for the club's image".

Winner of the English Premier League with Arsenal in 2002 and 2004, Wiltord left the London club in 2004 for Lyon, helping them win the French title the last three years.

A European champion in 2000, he was also a member of the France squad which reached the final of last year's World Cup.

The 33-year-old has scored 26 goals from 92 games for his country.

French media are widely reporting Wiltord could be leaving Lyon shortly for Ligue 1 rivals Olympique Marseille.
