CARNOUSTIE, Scotland, July 18 - British Open title hopeful Sergio Garcia is unlikely to be singing in the Carnoustie rain this week.

"It looks like the most important club is probably going to be the umbrella," joked the Spaniard as another downpour soaked the Scottish links on Wednesday.

"I have always considered myself a good wind player but I'm not the biggest fan of rain," he told a news conference.

Forecasters say the recent wet weather should relent for the opening two rounds of the championship on Thursday and Friday before returning again at the weekend.

World number 13 Garcia said the conditions may benefit the European players more than the American contingent.

"Us Europeans might be a bit more used to that because we play more often in the rain," said the 27-year-old. "Usually in the U.S. you get more thunderstorms so when it rains over there they stop play.

"Most of the time in Europe you can get through it unless it's really heavy rain. I guess that's one of the advantages for us in bad weather."

Garcia, still chasing his first major victory, feels his game is in good shape after a top-20 finish in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond on Sunday.

"I had a decent week last week until the last couple of holes," he said. "Other than that it was a good positive week.

"I struggled a little bit at the U.S. Open but I feel like my game is coming around again. It's just a matter of getting some good confidence and getting some good momentum on your side."
